Aftercare Program Support Position

The aftercare program support position is responsible for supporting multiple Montessori classroom environments during the hours of 12-5 p.m. Candidates must actively embrace lifelong learning as well as a collaborative approach to education balanced with a strong sense of autonomy. A passion for deeply respectful parenting/teaching philosophies and restorative practices are a must. 

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children. Comfortable working with a variety of ages (3-12 years old).
  • Exceptional amount of patience and flexibility.
  • Meets all staff requirements of local and state regulatory agencies including background checks, first aid and CPR certification, and annual training mandated by DHR.
  • Familiar with Positive Discipline (preferred).
  • Has some college coursework completed (preferred).

Essential Functions

  • Prioritizes the safety and well-being of students and staff at all times through adherence to DHR Performance Standards, MSH Policies and Procedures, and AMS Code of Ethics. 
  • Assists the lead guide in ensuring an appropriate, stimulating program of activities, consistent with the Montessori philosophy.
  • Shares responsibility for the care, maintenance, and cleanliness of the classroom, playground, outdoor classroom, and materials.
  • Assists in ensuring that the classroom and associated areas (including playground) meet all licensing, safety, and health requirements.
  • Fulfills cleaning, opening, and lock-up responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Demands

Persons must have enough physical stamina to work effectively with young children and must be able to stand for a lengthy number of hours. They also must have the ability to see and hear children and to lift 45 pounds. 

Position and Work Hours:

This is a Monday – Friday position with the hours of 12pm – 5pm for the academic year (August – May), with opportunities to work during summer camps.

 

Substitute Teacher
The Montessori School of Huntsville seeks substitute teachers for the current school year. Qualified candidates enjoy outdoor learning, support respectful parenting and teaching philosophies, must be at least 18 years of age, and will meet suitability requirements through our background check process.
